Walk Beside Me


Are you in interested in being a Mentor?

“Our Vision is to Support, Guide and Uplift the South Sudanese youth of Yarra – Learning and Growing together as a Community”.

Mentors will:

  • Build positive friendships
  • Provide guidance and supportive
  • Work within an enthusiastic mentor team
  • Available 3 hours per week WEDNESDAYS 5PM – 8PM (committing to 3 weeks per month)

 

After the 12 month program, Mentors will receive:

  • A Certificate of Recognition
  • Training and hours of practical experience
  • Professional references for future career opportunities

Interviews will be held in AUGUST

Weekly commitment starts in SEPTEMBER

MENTORING:

  • Involves acting as a positive role model that can influence the course of a young person's life and impact upon their personal development.
  • helps build resilience and a sense of self-worth
  • supports a young person to stay in school and engage positively in society
  • Increases a young person’s sense of belonging within their community
  • encourage young people to participate in new and exciting activities and experiences
  • creates and fosters new relationships

 

MENTORS who participate in the ‘Walk Beside Me’ program will:

  • Gain skills that will be valuable to you on both a personal and professional level
  • Gain valuable trainings and additional skills , and qualifications
  • Learn how to work efficiently as a team member in planning,  delivering a youth program
  • Learn effective communication and support skills
  • Support the young people from your community
  • Have the opportunity to contribute your unique skills & talents to the program
